With 218,000 searches between June 2021 and May 2022, as well as 213,600 posts on Instagram using the tag, this theme is incredibly popular.
- Farmhouse bathroom - 280,600 Google searches - 92,656 Instagram posts
If the cold and clean luxury of marble isn't quite your thing, perhaps you'll be more interested in the comfort and homey feel of a farmhouse-style bathroom. These bathrooms tend to use plenty of wood and natural materials, highlighting features such as exposed brick walls and wooden beams.
The trend has proven itself to be popular with 280,600 searches in 12 months and 92,656 Instagram posts showcasing the look.

The rustic bathroom trend is similar to the farmhouse trend, using natural materials and showcasing natural features. However, this trend tends to be a little more 'rough around the edges', forgoing sleeker styles for something a little more low maintenance.
With 105,100 searches and 15,773 Instagram posts, we can see that these bathrooms are particularly popular.

Comparing searches from June 2021 - May 2022 to the previous 12-month period, we can see that searches have risen by a massive 329.86%.

While microcement offers a fantastic new style for your bathroom, it is also incredibly practical due to its hardiness. This means that you'll be able to enjoy your bathroom for years to come without the microcement elements degrading.

Looking at Google searches from all over the world, there were 1,325,500 searches in the last year for 'walk-in showers' and we found 2,514 hashtagged posts on Instagram.
- Steam shower - 1,044,000 Google searches - 26,900 Instagram posts
Spa bathrooms are a popular trend in 2022, and a steam shower is the ultimate addition to any home spa. Steam showers use a humidifying steam generator to produce water vapour, which helps induce sweating and remove toxins from the body.

Outdoor showers are the perfect addition to any pool house and add a luxurious feel to your home.
The shower trends to watch out for in 2022
- Reeded glass shower - 46.67% increase in Google searches
Reeded or fluted glass is textured to give an interesting look, and when it is used as a shower screen, it can give you an extra layer of privacy. This can be particularly useful in big bathrooms or bathrooms with large windows.
Seeing an increase in searches of 46.67%, reeded glass showers are the rising stars of the shower trends.

This trend has seen a 19% year-on-year increase, earning it a spot in our top three shower trends to watch out for.

This type of shower saw searches increase by 13.79% over the past 12 months, making it one to watch out for.
Methodology
We wanted to find out the most popular bathroom trends, colours and fixtures of 2022, so we searched listicles from Ideal Home, Martha Stewart, Good Housekeeping, House Beautiful, Real Homes and Homes and Gardens, to compile a list of the hottest bathroom trends.
We then used Google Keyword Planner to find the total number of worldwide Google searches for each bathroom trend between June 2021 and May 2022. We also compared these searches to the previous 12-month period in order to discover those which saw the biggest increase in searches.
We also used Instagram to find the total number of posts uploaded with the relevant hashtag for each bathroom trend, accurate as of 27th June 2022.
